• In this context, ここに means "at that time."

• In the case of とこうとたくらむ, the particle と is quoting とこう to express that Agahnim was plotting the intention to release the seal. This is similar to とこうと思う (intend to untangle/dissolve/release).

• 血をひく means descendant. A more literal translation would be "from (someone)'s bloodline."

• だけ generally means "only" or "alone". Here, it means "of all people, especially you".

• "Link, you alone I didn't want to get involved in this."

• のに literally means "even though", and is often used used after a past-tense form to show regret that something you prepared for didn't go as you had planned. This construction is often preceded by the word "せっかく".

• Ex: 「せっかく洗濯物を干したのに...」　"and I just put out the laundry" (said when it starts raining suddenly).

• Note that the term 一族 is more used in a sense of lineage. 家族 and　家庭 are more regular terms when addressing your family(mother, father and siblings etc.).

• The なら emphasizes the subject: you can do it (but other people might not be able to).

• At this point, your uncle apparently dies.

• Take note that Zelda tends to end her sentences with わ occasionally. It indicates emotion and emphasis. Furthermore it is considered a female term, so don't replicate this if you are male otherwise you will sound girlish.

• お父様 uses both the honorific prefix お and the suffix さま. さま is a highly honorific suffix. When used on titles and persons it can carrie a subliminal meaning of worhsip and devotion. Zelda is using it for her father because he is also the King of Hyrule, obviously. お父さん with the polite but more neutral さん suffix would be the more regular term to address your father.

• 悪魔 literally means devil and often relates to Satan. However in Japanese every person doing horrendous evil deeds can be labeled with that term.

• The kanji for priest here 神父 are different than those used for Aghanim 司祭. The meaning is the same. Except that 神父 is literally "god-father" and therefore has a connotation of "good" as opposed to Aghanim, who is evil.　司祭　literally means Conductor of Rituals. Which hints at Aghanims rituals in the game.

• 力に成(な)って呉(く)れる's meaning is straightforward: "The priest will become our power." = "The priest('s actions) will become (=contribute) to our power." = "The priest will give us power."

• Appending なんか to nouns or persons literally means 'something or someone like that'. When used on persons this can be considered derogatory.

• Putting 様です on the end of a sentence, gives it the meaning of 'it seems like' or 'it appears to me (as if)'.

• 彼奴(あやつ) is derived from 彼(あ), an old Japanese pronoun still seen in such words as あれ,あの,あいつ,あなた(あ+の+方)) and 奴(やつ), so the basic meaning is "that person", furthermore it is derogatory. It is basically a contraction of あのやつ.

• 退 basic meaning is "retreat, move somebody out of the way" and 魔 means evil, so judging from the kanji, it means "sword that fends off evil".

• と言う事です literally means "it is said that..." or "they say that...".

• 探し回る (here rendered 探しまわる) is a combination of 探す, "to search", and 回る, "to go around" (often in the literal sense of "orbit", but sometimes in the more figurative sense of wandering). Hence, "to go around looking".

• せず, from する, is formed by using 連用形 (continuous use form) of the classical negation of verbs with ず(ぬ). So it means "without doing". Thus, 心配せずに is "without worry".

• Take note that ヘブラ山 uses the suffix for 山 since it is a place name. So it is pronounced ヘブラさん. There are many other nouns that have suffix or even prefix pronunciations for kanji, so watch out for this. A few examples on when to use and not use the suffix:
• この山は美しい。 "This mountain is beautiful."
• へブラ山は美しい。 "Mount Hebra is beautiful."

Whatever the case, this tree reacts quite strange to our saw. It goes *squeak* *squeak*

• The two woodcutters use a big two-man saw to cut down the tree.

• きりごたえ has most likely an analogous meaning to 手応え; i.e., "the feeling while cutting" or something like this. This is a hint for the player later on when he can ram into the tree using the Pegasus Boots. This will reveal a hollow tree trunk leading to a secret area.

• なあ or な used at the end of a sentence can be used to convey emphasis and emotion. This is usually a mens term and can be considered the male equivalent to わ which Zelda likes to use every now and then. Women using なあ can sound a little bit tomboyish. Be careful not to confuse this with the negating particle な following a verb which is meant as a prohibition. For example if someone yells at you "食べるな！"　in a loud and anxious voice, then it is not good to go ahead and eat it. In this case however, it is quite clear since な is elongated using あ which let's you know that it is used to convey more emphasis.

• にい　means elder brother. However, you can use words like this to address strangers you don't have any family relations with too. In this case you would translate it different according to the current situation, the relations the characters are in and which kind of honorific prefixes and suffixes are used. This also depends on the age difference the two characters interacting with each other have. In this case "buddy" seems legit, since Link has no family relations to this man but is still addressed without honorific prefixes and with the more familiar ちゃん suffix.

• This is what in the English localization of the game is called the "Chris Houlihan Room". The room is used as an error handler if you fall into a hole, and the game cannot find a proper destination. It is a single cave room and contains a telepathic tile as well as 225 rupees. If you exit the cave, you end up in front of Link's House, regardless of which world you were in before. (Chris Houlihan is a kid who participated at a Nintendo Power event and received the honor to get his name to appear in a future Zelda game, which happened to be in this room in the English version.)
